About this work
A row of high-rise towers, one topped by a slender construction crane, rises against a rich violet-to-rose evening sky. Their facades alternate bands of deep blue-black and glowing gold window light, with the tallest structures catching the last warm light along their edges while a lower, blockier building sits at the right. Below, the lit facades dissolve into streaked, luminous reflections in dark water.
The palette moves from cool violet in the sky to hot gold and amber in the windows and reflections, applied with thick, dragged strokes that leave ridges of impasto along the towers' edges. Verticals are built with broad palette-knife passes, while the reflections below loosen into dripping streaks, giving the skyline a glittering, nocturnal shimmer.
