About this work
A wide agricultural landscape stretches from a high vantage point toward a low horizon. Rows of cut stubble curve across the field in broad striped bands, dotted with round straw bales, while a cluster of small houses and trees sits along the far tree line beneath a broad, cloud-filled sky.
The palette is unusually keyed toward violet, mauve and ochre rather than naturalistic greens, applied in loose, energetic strokes that flatten the furrows into rhythmic ribbons of color. Thick impasto marks build the foreground grasses and bushes, while the sky is painted in soft grey-lilac swipes. The overall effect is decorative and atmospheric, evoking the hush of a late-summer countryside after harvest.
