About this work
Rows of terracotta-roofed houses cluster at the foot of a steep, largely treeless hill, their walls painted in soft greens and creams. The slope rises to a ridge crowned by a small ruined tower and a few dark cypresses, with sparse olive trees casting long shadows down the parched ground and a dirt road cutting across the middle distance.
The palette is built from dusty ochres, lilac-grey shadows and pale straw tones, applied in short, dry strokes that capture the sunburnt texture of the land. Diffuse daylight flattens the hillside into broad planes of color, giving the composition a quiet, contemplative stillness.
