About this work

A small white-walled church with a bulbous dark dome stands amid dense green foliage, its narrow arched windows and a red-painted door facing the viewer. Behind it rise the broken, roofless arches of an adjoining ruined structure, their empty window openings framing the pale sky.

The palette stays muted -- grey-blue sky, ochre-white stone, deep bottle-green foliage -- applied in loose, dragged strokes that leave the canvas weave visible. Soft, diffused light flattens shadows and lends the scene a quiet, overcast stillness, evoking a modest country church seen on a grey day.
