About this work
A dense stand of tall grasses and dried wildflowers, gone to seed and topped with fluffy white heads, fills nearly the whole canvas. A slender stem of red fireweed leaves rises at the center, and a low line of trees under a pale sky closes the composition along the top edge.
The palette is built from ochre, khaki, and sage green, applied in short, thick, knife-laid strokes that mimic the texture of stalks and seed fluff. Touches of coral and white punctuate the tangle, and the soft, even light gives the meadow a quiet, late-season stillness.
