About this work
A narrow woodland creek recedes into the distance between two dense stands of slender birch trunks and tangled brush, with no figures or animals present — only trees, undergrowth and fallen leaves along the banks. The still water in the foreground mirrors the surrounding branches and pale overcast sky.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from silvery greys, olive greens and warm ochre accents; thick, dry-brush strokes render bark, twigs and leaf litter, while the water is left smoother and paler to catch soft, diffused light. Heavy surface texture and a muted tonal range give the scene a hushed, contemplative, damp-morning atmosphere.
