About this work
Overlapping fractured shapes in bone-white and pale ochre gather in the center of the canvas, their torn, curling edges suggesting layered petals or an abstracted flower head. Dark cracks and small orange-red fragments show through the gaps, while a deep blue field of rectangular and diagonal strokes surrounds the cluster on all sides.
Acrylic is applied thickly and worked into a cracked, almost ceramic-like surface, with the white forms built up in raised relief against flatter blue passages. The strong blue-and-cream contrast and rough, tactile texture give the composition an intense, dreamlike quality more about material and light than botanical detail.
