Palmira

The canvas is divided into irregular geometric zones: a solid blue sky with a pale circular form at upper left, broad blocks of ochre, orange and cream below, and a cluster of dark grey and teal stripes at right. Small inset motifs — a coiled white shape, tiny colored squares, scattered dots — suggest fragments of walls and ornament rather than any single scene.

The surface is heavily textured, built up in raised, cracked layers of ivory ground beneath the acrylic, giving each field a weathered, sun-worn relief. Warm earth tones dominate against cool blue and grey passages, suggesting bright, dry heat and quiet stillness. The flat, hard-edged shapes and tactile ground give the work a restrained, meditative calm.
