About this work
A wide diptych crops in tightly on two swimmers' heads and shoulders, each wearing a rubber cap and goggles, mouths open as if gasping mid-race. The cap on the left bears the number 8, the one on the right the number 6, and below each face a hand rises into frame - one with an index finger pointed up, the other pinching its fingers together, both reading as gestures of victory.
The two panels share a saturated cobalt-blue ground that flattens the space and pushes the flesh-toned faces forward. Paint is applied in broad, confident strokes with visible brush drag across cheeks and caps, and the cropped framing combined with the intense blue gives the image an urgent, adrenaline-charged energy.
