About this work
Two tall, attenuated figures—one leaning back with a hand raised, the other angled toward her—occupy the foreground of a sunlit beach, with a scatter of small bathers, a sailboat, and pale dunes receding behind them. Their bodies are built from broad interlocking strokes rather than defined contours, dissolving into the surrounding light.
A cool blue sky and sea contrast with warm ochre and white passages describing sand and skin, the whole surface worked in thick, ridged impasto applied with a palette knife. The loose, fractured brushwork blurs the boundary between figures and setting, giving the beach conversation a bright, flickering, sun-bleached energy.
