About this work
A tangled dark knot of paint sits at the upper centre, like a twisting head or mass of hair, from which streaks of pink and magenta fall across the lower half as if forming a flared skirt in motion. A patch of yellow sits at the lower left, and cooler teal and blue splashes fill the right side and background.
The ground is a warm, raw brown left partly bare, over which black, pink and teal paint is dragged in fast, sweeping strokes and drips. Colour is applied wet and loose with little blending, edges left ragged and energetic, giving the piece a charged, whirling sense of motion, as though catching a figure mid-turn.
