About this work
Swirling ribbons, spirals and curling tendril-like forms interlock across the entire sheet with no single focal point, occasionally opening into small clusters of triangular and diamond facets. The composition reads as an abstract tangle of plant-like and wave-like shapes rather than any recognizable scene, filling the picture edge to edge.
Layered colored-pencil hatching in teal, sage, lilac and ochre builds soft gradients within each curling shape, while the visible woven texture of the gauze ground shows through as a pale grid. The overlapping rhythm of curves and the mix of hard and soft edges give the sheet a light, playful, decorative energy.
