Silver day

A stone bridge lined with lamp posts spans a wintry river, its parapet dusted with snow. Behind it the silhouette of a domed cathedral and a row of rooftops emerge faintly from a thick haze, with only the gilded dome catching a warm glow against the overcast sky.

The composition is built almost entirely from close greys, mauves and pale blues, the whole scene softened by fog so that architecture, water and sky merge into one veiled tone. Loose, economical strokes and a limited, low-contrast palette create a hushed, melancholic stillness, as if the city were seen through a thin curtain of falling snow.
