About this work
Within an oval frame inscribed 'Ex Libris Cornelis,' a colossal bearded head fills the right side, gazing down at a nude figure stretched diagonally across the lower left as if asleep or washed ashore. Behind a drawn curtain above, two robed figures confer — one pensive, the other horned and gripping a lightning-wreathed trident — beside a faint ghostly profile.
Dense cross-hatching and fine stippling build deep black shadows around the curtain and onlookers, leaving the central faces in lighter, more delicate line. The dramatic scale contrast between the giant head and the small reclining body gives the etching a brooding, mysterious charge.
