About this work

Two vertical etched panels sit side by side, each split into an upright image above and its inverted mirror below, echoing a playing card's symmetrical court figure. The left panel stacks an armored, cross-marked head over a reversed hand and small face; the right pairs a crowned, beaked profile above a checkerboard floor with its own inverted double.

Warm sepia toning alternates with inky black grounds between the two sheets, and every surface, armor, crown, feather, floor tile, is worked in dense, obsessive hatching that flattens the figures into pattern. The doubled, inverted format gives the print a riddling, card-trick strangeness.
