About this work
A bearded, long-haired man sits hunched with one leg drawn up and the other stretched flat, his torso twisted and one hand held open toward the viewer. Loose red marks are scattered across his chest, shoulder and arm like open sores or wounds, set against an otherwise bare, lightly toned sheet.
The figure is drawn with quick, nervous etched lines over a warm, faintly foxed paper tone, the red confined to small dabs that stand out sharply against the black-and-white linework. The pose, twisted and off-balance with an outstretched, questioning hand, together with the scattered wounds, gives the print a raw sense of physical and spiritual affliction.
