About this work
Two nude men hang suspended against a bare concrete wall, arms tied above their heads and bodies sagging, one wrapped partly in cloth. Red-painted letters and scrawled marks cover the wall beside them, while below, soldiers in camouflage sit around a table absorbed in a card game, and another stands guard, seemingly unaware of the men hanging above.
The palette is cold grey and white, broken by the dark green uniforms below and the violent red of the painted graffiti, which reads like a wound across the wall. Paint is applied thinly on the wall and more thickly on the hanging bodies, and the contrast between the suffering figures above and the casual soldiers below creates a bleak, accusatory mood.
