About this work

A magenta rubber hot-water bottle hangs by a loop of cord from a nail on a tiled wall, its surface embossed with a ribbed pattern and central medallion catching the light. Below it, two small ceramic wall-hooks shaped like scalloped flowers, each painted with clusters of purple and green blossoms, hold turned wooden pegs.

The warm ochre tiling is rendered in soft, blended pastel strokes, set against the saturated magenta of the rubber bottle, which reads almost as a bright wound of color on the wall. Loose shading gives the vinyl surface a worn, slightly deflated sheen, and the overall handling is quiet and tender, evoking a small, humble object preserved from everyday use.
