Antique myths in seventeen engravings by Dmitry Margolin

At the center two muscular nude men, one bearded and older, clasp each other in a straining embrace, standing over a body trampled beneath their feet. At left a woman shields a small child near rising flames while another figure crouches in distress; at right further nude figures recoil with arms raised. Through an archway behind them, more struggling bodies appear amid smoke.

Dense, overlapping crosshatching builds deep blacks in the flames and shadowed bodies, throwing the strained muscles and anguished faces into sharp relief. The crowded, diagonal composition and jagged linework give the print an intense, overwhelming sense of violence and mass suffering.
