About this work
A bearded centaur, his equine hindquarters rearing amid tangled roots, grips a nude woman by the hair and pulls her across the ground as she twists away from him; an arrow already juts from his side. At right a nude archer draws his bow and takes aim, standing on rocky ground beneath a cloud-streaked sky.
Sharp, agitated hatching builds the centaur's straining muscles and shaggy underside in heavy black strokes, while the woman's pale body and the archer's figure stay comparatively light, guiding the eye through the violent action. The jagged linework and taut diagonal poses give the print a charged, physically urgent tension.
