About this work

Fine, dense hatching models the flesh in soft gradations against darker foliage rendered in heavier crosshatched strokes, giving the print rich tonal contrast typical of etching. The composition's slow diagonal and the tender contact between the two figures create a hushed, intimate mood despite the print's graphic density.
