About this work

A man with branching antlers and a torn, skeletal-looking torso stands pinned by two hounds tearing at his side, his arms thrown up in pain. To the right a barefoot woman in a flowing tunic, haloed by a burst of light, strides away while looking back, a bow held in her hand, against a backdrop of dense trees and a rocky slope.

Coarse, agitated hatching builds the transformed man's ribs and the hounds' straining bodies into near-black masses, while the goddess is left comparatively pale and smooth, the fine lines of her drapery catching light. The contrast between violent shadow and radiant figure gives the print a sharp, dramatic charge.
