About this work

A nude woman reclines against gnarled tree roots, head tipped back and one arm flung across her body, drapery slipping from her hip. A small child stands over her, tugging at the loose cloth while gazing up at a huge shaggy, clawed creature that rises behind them, its hands spread wide within a burst of radiating light, birds scattering across the glow.

Dense hatching darkens the creature's shaggy hide against the radiating white burst behind it, while the woman and child are left in paler, softer contour. The contrast between their vulnerable stillness and the looming, clawed shape above gives the etching a dramatic, foreboding tension.
