About this work
At left a satyr with small horns and goat-like hindquarters crouches low, one clawed hand resting against the ground and the other reaching toward the woman beside him. She lies stretched across the forest floor, one arm bent over her eyes as if startled awake, her body pale against the dark tangle of tree trunks and roots behind her.
Fine, dense hatching darkens the satyr's hide and the surrounding woodland while leaving the woman's skin nearly untouched by line, throwing her figure into pale relief. The tension between his reaching hand and her raised arm charges the quiet grove with an uneasy, dramatic intimacy.
