Antique myths in seventeen engravings by Dmitry Margolin

Around a stone anvil three muscular men labor: one crouches pulling a glowing bar with long tongs, another stands raised on his toes swinging a heavy hammer overhead. At left a bearded man ringed by radiating light gestures toward the anvil, directing the work, while at right a helmeted figure grips a shield and a crouching man tends a torch amid smoke and flame.

Dense crosshatching darkens the forge interior while sharp radiating lines burst from the haloed figure's head, setting divine light against soot-black shadow. Straining muscles and taut tendons are built from tight, overlapping strokes, giving the scene a forceful, energetic rhythm of hammer, fire and smoke.
