About this work
A crowded group of nude satyrs and nymphs surges across a forest clearing in a chaotic dance. At the center a heavyset bearded satyr strains forward bent at the waist, flanked by embracing couples, while at right two more figures spin with arms flung overhead; thick woodland closes in behind them except for a strip of open sky where a bird wheels.
Rendered in dense, energetic cross-hatching typical of etching, the composition builds deep blacks in the foliage against the pale bodies, giving the scene a turbulent, torch-lit intensity. Musculature is exaggerated and gestures are thrown wide, so the whole print reads as a single surge of drunken motion.
