About this work
Several small sailboats and a dark trawler are moored in a wide, calm harbor, their masts rising against a low shoreline of buildings and hills in the distance. The water fills most of the elongated composition, mirroring the boats and the pale sky above.
Soft pinks, lavenders and blues suggest early morning or dusk light, applied in short, loaded strokes and dabs typical of alla prima plein-air painting. Reflections are broken into loose patches of color rather than sharp mirror images, lending the harbor a hazy, tranquil calm.
