About this work
A tree-lined canal recedes toward a row of pastel apartment buildings under a clear blue sky. Ice and dark open water fill the channel below a stone parapet, while a paved embankment path runs along the right bank past a lone pedestrian with a small dog.
Loose, sunlit brushwork picks out bare branches in warm ochre against cool shadows on the snow-streaked pavement. The high contrast between crisp light and long blue shadows gives the scene a brisk, clear-eyed freshness typical of early spring in a northern city.
