About this work
Tall birch and pine trees arch in from both sides of the composition, framing a calm lake at dusk. A dark band of forest lines the far shore, broken by a small strip of glowing orange light at the horizon. Two small figures, an adult and a child, stand together on the near bank holding fishing rods over the water.
Soft lavender, mauve and dusty rose tones dominate sky and water alike, while the trees are rendered in loose, blurred strokes of green and burgundy. Reflections dissolve the line between sky and lake, and the hushed, glowing light gives the scene a tranquil, meditative stillness.
