About this work
Several dark gondolas, some capped with teal-blue covers, are tethered to wooden mooring poles rising from the calm lagoon water. Across the channel, a tall brick campanile and white dome stand above a low row of waterside buildings, with the wider skyline continuing faintly along the horizon.
A soft dusk sky of peach, lavender, and pale blue reflects across the greenish water, its glow echoed in muted highlights on the boats. Broad, fluid brushstrokes render the gently rippled surface and soften the distant architecture, giving the lagoon a hushed, tranquil evening calm.
