About this work
Dark, tangled tree branches rise from a pale expanse of snow that fills the lower half of the canvas, with a lighter band suggesting a path or clearing running through the center. Touches of ochre and rust appear among the branches, hinting at dried leaves or bark caught between winter trunks, while the upper canvas dissolves into a hazy, colorless sky.
The palette stays close to lavender-grey, white and pale ochre, built up with thick, dabbed strokes and scraped textures that blur specific detail into general atmosphere. Brushwork is loose and heavily worked, almost abstract, giving the scene a hushed, wintry stillness rather than a precise topography. The overall effect is quiet and subdued, evoking cold air and muffled light.
