About this work
A row of leafy trees grows along a low sloping bank that curves from the left edge toward the middle distance, with open green fields continuing along the far shore. The still river in the foreground reflects the trees and the warm sky almost like a mirror, doubling the composition vertically.
The scene is painted in warm yellow-greens and deep olive-black shadows, with the glowing sky and its reflection built from soft, even gradations of color. The trees are rendered with looser, dabbed brushwork that grows darker and more silhouetted toward their base, giving the whole scene a still, glowing summer-evening calm.
