About this work
Several old log outbuildings with sagging, moss-covered roofs stand crowded together at the edge of a forest, partly screened by slender birches and a tall pine. A narrow stream of muddy brown water winds through the grassy clearing in the foreground, flanked by a low wooden fence, leading the eye back toward the ruined structures.
Bright green foliage and sunlit grass contrast with the dark, weathered timber of the collapsing roofs, under a pale summer sky dotted with soft clouds. Loose, energetic brushwork and dabs of light green and gold convey warm midday sun filtering through the trees, lending the abandoned farmstead an unexpectedly cheerful, tranquil feel.
