About this work
Tall birches thick with frost dominate the composition, their trunks and thin branches rendered in soft greys and creams against a hazy pink-grey sky. A yellow wooden house with a red plank staircase and a utility pole stands partly hidden behind the trees at right, set against a flat expanse of untouched snow.
Cool lavender and buff tones merge into the frosted foliage, painted with soft, blended strokes that mimic the fuzzy texture of rime ice. The muted light and hazy air give the scene a hushed, still feeling, as if the yard is holding its breath in the cold.
