About this work
A narrow street scene shows a striped fabric awning at left shading a doorway, beside a tall cream-colored bell tower with an arched belfry opening. Further along, shuttered buildings with teal-green shutters and terracotta roofs crowd close together under a strip of blue sky, with cast shadows falling across the paved ground.
Warm creams, ochres, and soft pinks in the sunlit stone contrast with cool blue-green shadows and shutters, built up in short, loaded strokes typical of plein-air work. The brushwork is broken and textured, catching light on the tower and awning while leaving the alley floor in looser, blended passages. The overall effect is quiet, sun-drenched, and still, fitting the title's sense of silence.
