About this work

A tangled mass of snakes fills the canvas, their coiled bodies overlapping and knotted together with one head raised near the center of the composition. Dense green foliage surrounds the writhing forms, filling the frame with no other setting visible.

Scales are built up in thick, encrusted paint in blues, pinks, browns and golds against saturated greens. The heavy impasto and jewel-toned color turn the animal mass into an almost abstract textured surface, producing an unsettling, intense mood.
