About this work
A low rustic shed built from dark timber boards and rough stone sits beneath a tall whitewashed stone wall or chimney, its sagging roof and plank fence angled unevenly toward the viewer. Scattered debris, patches of grass and a few yellow flowers surround the structure, with a steep pale rock face filling the background.
White, grey, ochre and rust-brown pigment is built up with a palette knife into thick, ridged strokes that mimic the roughness of stone and weathered wood. Strong contrasts between sunlit white surfaces and dark cavities give the humble structure a rugged, almost sculptural presence and an intense, textured energy.
