About this work
Seen from a courtyard, tall bare trees with dark twisting branches cross the foreground and frame a cluster of multi-storey apartment buildings whose gabled roofline and chimney pots stand against a pale spring sky. Patches of green lawn appear at the base of the composition.
The paint is applied in short, loaded strokes that break the building facades into facets of green, ochre, violet and grey, while the sky is worked in soft blue-white touches. The overall effect is airy and fresh, capturing the damp, changeable light of an early spring day in the city.
