About this work

Dense clusters of white apple blossoms cover branches radiating from a central trunk that fills the canvas; small green leaf buds show among the flowers, and patches of blue sky appear through gaps in the blooming canopy.

Thick dabbed strokes of white, cream and pale lilac build up the petals against a bright cobalt ground, with soft green and gray in bark and leaves; the tight, cropped framing and heavy impasto give the study an immediate, fresh, blossoming energy.
