About this work
A narrow cobbled street runs between tall ochre and tan buildings with shuttered windows and wrought-iron balconies, converging on a modest whitewashed chapel at the far end. The chapel's facade holds a round clock and a small open bell tower topped with a weathervane, its dark doorway standing open at street level beneath a bright blue sky with a single cloud.
Warm ochre, gold and tan dominate the sunlit walls, set against cool blue-violet shadows and a clear sky, with loose, confident brushstrokes building the texture of stone and plaster. Strong midday light creates sharp contrasts between sunstruck and shaded surfaces, giving the street a bright, vivid warmth.
