About this work
A bovine skull with two long, ribbed horns and a large spiral seashell are propped upright on thin stick-like stilts, set against a deep night sky scattered with stars, a crescent, and a small cross. Narrow decorative panels stand between the two forms, and a rough, textured ground stretches across the bottom edge of the sheet.
Worked entirely in fine engraved lines and stippled dots, the image builds a velvety black background against which the bone-white skull and pale shell stand out sharply. The obsessive linework, the cosmic backdrop, and the fantastical pairing of skull and shell give the print an eerie, dreamlike intensity.
