About this work
An older man's head appears at a three-quarter angle, features broken apart by heavy, fractured lines: one eye sits inside a large round shape like a lens, a jagged mark runs down the forehead, while the ear and jaw stay more solidly outlined. Ink drips and spatters trail from the chin, as if the image were dissolving.
Black ink is layered with rust-red and steel-blue washes that bleed into the paper's grain, giving the skin a bruised, weathered texture. Cross-hatched marks build shadow across the cheekbone while the rest of the face is left pale and cracked with white paper showing through. The fractured lines and dripping ink give the portrait a raw, unsettling intensity.
