About this work
A traditional wooden house with ornately carved window surrounds and a dormer window stands at an angle beside tall utility poles strung with sagging wires; a rutted dirt road curves away past it toward a hazy row of distant buildings. Small windows glow amber against the weathered grey-brown planks of the facade.
The scene is built from loose pastel and colored-pencil strokes — soft pinks, teals and ochres brushed over a scribbled charcoal sky — leaving much of the paper bare to suggest overcast light. The sketchy, unfinished handling and faded, muted colors give the old house a worn, nostalgic quiet.
