About this work
The corner of a single-story log house is drawn close up, showing carved decorative surrounds around three shuttered windows, horizontal log courses, and a steep pyramidal roof rising to a capped chimney pipe. A small hipped porch roof extends to the right, with bare ground and grass sketched in the foreground.
The drawing is built mainly from dense pencil hatching describing wood grain and shadow, with restrained color pencil washes of rust-red on the roof and touches of ochre and green elsewhere. The tight, linear technique and muted tones give the sketch a quiet, documentary mood.
