Loose, scratchy cross-hatching builds the houses and figures, while broad washes of ultramarine blue drip down from a grey sky and a soft pink glow warms the horizon behind the roofs. The spontaneous mixed technique gives the sheet the immediacy of an on-the-spot travel sketch.
