About this work
A winding brown path streaked with the last patches of snow climbs the near bank, flanked by bare trees and a tall, slender birch. Across the wide river, the colorful tented domes and red walls of a monastery cluster on the far shore, with scattered village rooftops fading into the haze beyond.
Muted ochres, browns, and greys dominate the earth and sky, set against the cooler blue of the water and the monastery's green and red accents. Thick, textured strokes render the crusted snow and tangled branches, while a soft, overcast light gives the scene a quiet, transitional early-spring stillness.
