About this work
A dense, dark green bank of foliage and trees curves in from the right, wrapping around a calm river bend that opens into pale, warm light on the left. Still water fills the lower half of the canvas, mirroring the trees and pale sky above, while a few bare branches jut from the bank into the water at lower right.
Deep, cool greens and near-black shadow define the wooded bank, contrasted with the warm cream and rose tones of the sky and its reflection in the water. Dense, textured brushwork builds the foliage's mass while the water and sky are laid in smoother, softer passages, creating a hushed, glowing calm at the close of a still day.
