About this work
A stone embankment and iron railing lead the eye along a narrow canal toward a terracotta-colored building caught in low, warm sunlight. Bare trees with faint reddish buds frame the view, their branches crossing the pale sky, while a paler facade recedes into the distance beyond. The still water below mirrors the trees and glowing walls in broken streaks of color.
Warm orange and ochre tones stand out against the cooler blues and greys of sky and water, built up with short, choppy strokes of impasto. The vertical format draws the eye upward through the tangle of branches to the sunstruck wall, creating a quiet, intimate view of a city corner caught between seasons.
