About this work
A small manor with a conical turret roof sits among green trees under a partly clouded sky, seen from a rise of open ground. In the foreground, broad sweeps of golden-yellow field and dark teal-green grass are crossed by the long shadow of an overhanging tree branch entering from the upper left.
Color is simplified into bold, flat planes -- deep teal, glowing yellow-gold and warm ochre -- applied with loose, confident brushstrokes rather than fine detail. Low evening light rakes across the landscape, throwing long shadows and saturating the fields with color, giving the scene a bright, dreamy warmth typical of a summer sunset.
