About this work
A grassy meadow dotted with blue cornflowers and small white blooms fills the lower half of the canvas, stretching toward a low, dark tree line at the horizon. A small dark shape sits barely visible in the middle distance. Above, an expansive sky of layered clouds occupies more than half the composition, with no figures present.
Vivid greens of the grass contrast with the sky's soft pink, turquoise, grey and cream clouds, painted in loose, broken strokes that suggest movement of wind and light. The impressionistic handling and open composition give the field an airy, tranquil, slightly dreamy stillness.
